DOCUMENTARY FEATURE

Welcome to Iouli.art where we introduce our Feature-length hybrid documentary. A remarkable story of the incredible journey of Modern Hawaiian Visual Arts fighting racial prejudice of the 1970s and succeeding immensely through the inspirational imprint of their ancestral culture and knowledge. The movement grew and splintered into multiple groups and the rebirth of the emergence of new Hale Nauā 4.0, 2026, instills Hope in the future of Hawaiian Visual Arts.

Our hero is master sculptor Rocky K. Jensen (ʻIOULI), who encourages everyone in the World to accept the power of Mana, the spiritual essence of all things  everywhere on planet Earth. Rocky is a master artist, a patriot, an iconic hero and enduring kupuna. Our approach blends traditional documentary filmscript, inter-woven with sub plots, fashioning a Painting like vision of dynamic motion, of uncoordinated, yet synchronous, societal Hawaiian movements in Dance of Hula, Voyaging of the Hōkūleʻa, Sovereignty from Protect Kahoʻolawe ʻOhana, and Language immersion that ʻAha Pūnana Leo forges, in a masterful choreographed storytelling.  Punctuated by the mesmerizing beauty of the Hawaiian Homeland evoking the sense of enduring calm and peace, the Film will arouse a vision of self-eternalness.

This Film captures the birth and legacy of the Hawaiian Renaissance. A film that demands worth of indigenous voices, the spiritual power from adoring Nature, and the perpetual inter-dependence of all things alive and inanimate. Hawaiians awaken with a renewed pride and belief in the magical power of their inheritance and continue forward into a hopeful future.  Holomua Mau A Mau.  Forward now and forever.

MAKAKŪ

ROCKY

"When an ancestral image is produced today, it must follow closely the ancient guidelines set down by the very first depicter of the abstract form.

Of course, the modern day artist has the freedom to use his own style, as was the case in the days of old.

Yet the essence of that ancient image is still alive."

A charismatic hero in an enchanting story.
